In October 2022, Roda volunteers and employees who participated in the creation of Roda's online courses held an online workshop on online adult education and presented the tools they use in creating online courses for adults.
The workshop was divided into three thematic units:
- Adult education
- Using RISE
- Filming videos
In the first part of the workshop, we talked about how and why adults learn, how to motivate them, and how to design content to keep adults interested and motivated to complete the online course they signed up for. Then we briefly presented the differences in the way children and adults learn and introduced the participants to the 4 basic principles of adult learning (Knowles). We also introduced participants to different types of learning and commented on how to fit different content formats into online courses for each type of "student".
In the second part of the workshop, we introduced the participants to the tool for creating online courses that we at Roda use - Rise (Articulate).
By showing the possibilities of working in Rise, we also mentioned the differences and similarities of live and online learning, and the principles of e-learning. Along the way, we shared tips and tricks with our colleagues that we collected during work, learning from our mistakes.
In the last part of the workshop, we showed the participants how to record quality video content - how to set up the scene, what to avoid and how to improve the video, how to position themselves in relation to the light and camera, where to look and how to speak when recording. In addition, we have provided a brief overview of affordable equipment and free or affordable tools for processing video content that we have found useful.
We look forward to seeing the contents that our colleagues will create!
