Pula Hosts First #PregnantGuide Book Promotion
At a time when the city of Pula is buzzing with book lovers attending its annual Book Fair(y), Roda held the first book promotion of Pregnant - Your Guide to the Next Twelve Months.
This treasure chest of information, tips and tricks looks at pregnancy as if your best friend were telling you everything you need to know about the experience. Information is made easier to understand with 18 informative illustrations. Not only is the book available in public libraries throughout Croatia, the Czech Republic and Slovenia for free, it is also available as an e-book and audio book - totally free thanks to funding from an Erasmus+ grant.
The book promotion included a panel presentation and discussion with project lead and principal author Daniela Drandić, midwife Slobodka Arsova from Pula General Hospital and collaborator at Pula's Midwife and Family Association, Iva Lanča from the Pula City Library, Marijeta Matijaš, the proofreader and editor of the Croatian edition as well as Ingrid Kurelović Dušić and Ekatarina Smoković, adminsitrators from a large mums' facebook group.
Midwife Slobodka Arsova said "Finally we have a book that provides relief from the fear that surrounds birth and motherhood. The book is easy to understand and filled with useful information, encourages women to believe in the beauty and innate capability to birth and breastfeed. This approach is very similar to the midwifery model of care, a model of care which should be equally available and attainable for women all over the country. This book will help popularise midwifery care, and I recommend it to all pregnant couples."
Iva Lanča Joldić from the Pula City Library added "This is exactly what pregnant women need - an easy to understand and friendly book they can hold and take with them when they go for a checkup or on a trip. Pregnant couples will especially appreciate the audio book, one of the first available on the Croatian market".
The book goes through a number of topics relevant to pregnancy, birth and postpartum, such as:
- nutrition and exercise during pregnancy
- pregnancy symptoms
- changes to your body during pregnancy
- mental health during pregnancy and postpartum
- routine tests and checks during pregnancy
- physiology of birth and postpartum
- what happens during postpartum
- the first days of postpartum and breastfeeding
- how to prepare a birth plan AND a postpartum plan.
