Robert Veriga, the first baby to be born after in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment in Croatia (then Yugoslavia), is celebrating his thirty-fifth birthday today!
Robert was born on 23 October 1983 in Zagreb, seventh baby born after IVF treatment in the world, just five years after the first IVF baby was born in the United Kingdom. In July this year, the world's first baby conceived after IVF, Louise Brown, celebrated her 40th birthday.
We can only imagine the courage of Robert's parents, Dragica and Josip, who had been trying to have a baby for six years, unsucessfully. Robert was conceived after only one attempt at IVF, despite medical conditions at the time that were very modest.
Congratulations to Dragica, Josip and Happy Birthday Robert!
